Signed in the summer along with Haydn Thomas, to replace Andy Gomarsall and Alex Page, Richards has certainly brought some urgency and abrasiveness to the base of the scrum. At present, Thomas is the better distributor, but as was shown in the Wasps game, Richards’ pace and vision offer a threat possibly only matched in the GP by Harry Ellis.
His attitude seems very good. He appeared to accept his punishment for his misdemeanours after HRH’s party with good grace and knuckled down and got on with his job in the aftermath. Let’s hope that working with BR will get the pass a little snappier and with Thomas pushing him all the way for the starting position, we are far better served at scrum half than we were last season.
